Schools & Community Groups ‘Leap into Summer’ with a Frog Design Competition at The Centre, Livingston

Schools, colleges and community groups are being called upon by The Centre Livingston to ‘Leap into Summer’ and take part in an exciting art sculpture competition to design a three-dimensional (3.7ft length x 2.5ft high x 3.3ft wide) frog, which will become part of a Frog Trail exhibition being launched in the mall on the 1st July.

As part of a programme of free family fun events over the summer, the competition is designed to showcase the creative talents of different groups within the local community.

Entrants can apply for a ‘Leap into Summer Frog Trail’ pack by emailing, which includes full details of the competition and an outline of the three age categories; 5-11yrs old, 12-16 yrs old and 17+, and an A4 frog template to showcase what your design would look like if chosen to be transformed into a frog sculpture, to be submitted by 25th May.

Designs must include details of the materials that will be used, including everything from solid acrylic colours and glitter to mosaic and recycled materials, which translate well onto the frogs that are made from a mixture of laminating resin and chopped roving fibreglass over a brushed-on layer of polyester gel coat.

A panel of judges will choose nine of the most creative and inspiring designs, three from each age group, based on imagination and originality, on the 29th May.

The winners will receive their frogs to decorate the following week and a £250 Gift Card from The Centre, Livingston to help with the decorating costs.

Ashley Bisland, Deputy Centre Director at The Centre, said: “I’m really excited to see what kind of frog designs will come in over the next few weeks and of course seeing the winning ones being transformed into large frogs positioned around the mall.

“It’s a fantastic project which the whole community can get involved in whether its submitting a design, attending the launch of Frog Trail exhibition on the 1st of July or enjoying the great artwork on display by some very talented people in our community.”

The winners will be invited to the launch of the Frog Trail exhibition on the 1st July, running until 31st August, where two additional frogs, designed by artists will also be unveiled.
